Okay, so I will not win any awards for coming up with unique blog titles, but it fits what I am going to say. There will be times in your career that you just feel stuck...you want a change, but don't know which direction is best for you.
Rest assured that while you may not know the title or what it is called, your "dream" job exists - it first exists in your heart and then you pursue it into reality.
I know it sounds poetic and vague, but imagine yourself five years from now (looking back on the past five years) and ask yourself the following questions:
- What was three most important contributions I have made in the past five years?
- What did I enjoy the most about my career - what did I find to be most productive and exciting?
- What was the most difficult challenge and what steps did I take to overcome it?
- What unique skills, traits, and qualifications have I perfected and become an expert in?
- How was I awarded or commended?
- What is my professional reputation and what problems am I frequently called upon to solve?
Now, don't get confused. I want you to answer those questions NOT based on where you are now, but where you WANT to be. Start creating your future today and work hard at bringing that future into existence today.
Start doing research - is there someone already doing your future career? Sounds like a great opportunity for a mentor.
