Do you know of anything that does not need a rock solid foundation to keep steady and survive? Nothing comes to mind for me - it's a simple as this, if you want something that lasts, something that will be able to withstand changes, something that will bear the highs and lows and still come out strong, you need a solid foundation.
Okay, be patient with me and follow where I am going with this. Every executive resume and executive career document needs to start off with a strong foundation. Each aspect of your career, your career achievements, your training, your education and much more gets blended and transformed into a strategic career marketing document.
However, that final document - whether it's an executive resume, executive cover letter or executive career biography, will not impress anyone or generate great results without a great beginning.
I find that too often jobseekers think of the executive resume as a magical document that just gets synchronized through the magical work of a resume writer. They want me to create a new executive resume, so they send me an old resume with irrelevant, unrelated career experience and hope I can transform it into a targeted executive resume for a new industry. (Get a quick refresher on executive resume basics)
Here's the problem - if you are targeting positions in marketing and have absolutely no marketing experience - paid or volunteer - it will be difficult to create a compelling document that "sells" you to employers and recruiters. No matter how hard we try - yes, even a talented master resume writer like me (shameless plug) cannot create any magic when there is nothing relevant to work with...zero in, gets you zero out.
However, there is hope if you are patient and willing to take the long or longer road to a new career...find out how below.
