I had an amazing weekend...I attended the Radical Conference hosted by Doreen Rainey in Reston, Virginia. Besides having the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear words of wisdom from Suze Orman, Monique Greenwood, Ali Brown and Lisa Nichols, I learned that despite how much we succeed or progress in life, we ALL battle the fear factor.
In today's post, I am going to change gears and really focus on helping you shift your mindset and embrace new action. Change without action is pointless.
The uncertainty of the economy, the plethora of qualified candidates in the job markets, and the increased volume of job responsibilities in your current job may have you frozen in place. Does this describe you?
-- You have reached the top of your company's career ladder
-- You will only get an opportunity to move up when someone retires or dies
-- You keep getting put in a box and not given opportunities to increase your skillset
-- You have heard every reason under the sun for not gettting that raise or promotion
-- You have lost all passion and enthusiasm for your job
My question to you today - why are you still in the same place? Why are you not even exploring the alternative options? Why have you convinced yourself that this place, right here and right now is as far as you will ever get? What is the best that could happen if you took a chance?
Pressing past fear is never easy, but think about the last time in your life when you had fear, you were scared, you were nervous, but you did it anyway. What did it take for you to leap? What resources, people or network supported you in the process? More importantly, do you have enough courage to do it again?
Remember, I am right there with you...with all the changes in technology, I am continually challenged and stretched to try something new, master a new tool and embrace a new marketing strategy. For someone like me, the unknown is scary and I like staying in my safety zone. However, I have made a personal commitment to myself and my professional/personal growth to keep pressing past the discomfort, keep pressing past the fear, keep pressing past the "unknowns" until I see what's at the other end.
What can you get started with today - call someone, research that program, write your first blog post, become a volunteer in that new career interest, turn that hobby into a part-time business. You will never know unless you take that first step.
So what am I doing? I am finally going to create a Wordpress website and not worry about losing my web traffic from my current site, I am going to start targeting organizations and schools to secure more speaking engagements, and finally unleash a great program I developed, but have been sitting on for two years now.
